Should carabiners be lubricated?

Paragliding carabiners are lubricated with silicone during manufacture and require no further treatment thereafter, unless they become stained with sand or other foreign matter. In this case, clean them thoroughly with detergent, rinse and dry them well, and then lubricate them with a light oil like the one used for climbing gear. Do not use grease! Check the carabiners frequently to ensure they are working properly.

How long is the life of a carabiner?

Unlike carabiners used in mountaineering, paragliding carabiners are not subjected to shock loads. SUPAIR recommends replacing carabiners every 5 years or after 500 hours of use.
